Pretty Purse Palooza - Success Story!

Thank you, thank you to all our members who attended the Pretty Purse Palooza on October 18 and brought friends.  It was such a fun afternoon at Pam Berg's beautiful home (thank you, Pam)!  We sold all 63 purses and made over $3600.00.  There were bidding wars on more than a few of the purses which made it even more fun.... and no blood was shed!  Many of the purses were being bought for friends and family as holiday gifts.  So if you see a Guild member and she has a new purse, you might just ask her if it was from the Pretty Purse Palooza!

Gertrude Zachary Gives Back Fundraiser -

What A Success!

"Gertrude Zachary Gives Back" Benefitting the Music Guild of New Mexico

Imagine an 8,000 square foot former livery stable and blacksmith shop built in 1886 transformed into an elegant venue…. 20 foot ceilings filled with crystal chandeliers, spacious rooms filled with fine antiques, collectibles & contemporary furnishings, and art with the artists.

Then let's make it our own…. add music and members of the Music Guild of New Mexico!  This describes in part our evening at the "Gertrude Zachary Gives Back" event benefitting the Music Guild of New Mexico!

Around one hundred guests filled Gertrude Zachary Antiques' fabulous shop.  Music filled every room, provided by Scott and Irma Reeder, our dulcimer musicians, and the High Country Bluegrass band, composed of five musicians.  All voices became silent as Sam Barrett, our Jackie McGehee Young Artists Competition 3rd place winner in strings played the cello.

All this and more.  Gertrude Zachary provided wine & appetizers.   Gertrude Zachary organized and provided over twenty items for a silent auction which included a wide range of donated art, ceramics and day of the dead folk art.  (I was the lucky winner of a day of the dead Elvis!)
Discounts on all merchandise were extended to all. The best part of the evening was that MGNM received 10% of all sales during the evening.  It was nice to see many shopping bags full of merchandise as well as big items exiting the event with the attendees!

This was one of the most unique and fun fundraisers I have attended in a while.  I look forward to receiving the tally!  Most importantly, thank you to "Gertrude Zachary Gives Back" for a wonderful evening.

Meeting News - September 16, 2015

What a beautiful day and beautiful setting we had for our September luncheon!  The weather was perfect and we were able to enjoy the fantastic view out on the patio at Sandia Casino & Resort.  The business meeting was opened by our president, Denise Lemanski, and brief reports were presented.  Two new members, Julia Huff and Neal Shotwell, were recognized with a welcoming gift.   The raffle table was full of an assortment of wonderful donated items resulting in eight lucky ladies going home happy.  Plans are being finalized for the December 12 luncheon to be held at Embassy Suites featuring music, vendors and more raffle items.  Don't miss it and bring a friend!!

Music Guild Meetup at the Zoo!

JMYAC / NM Phil Concert, May 23

Please join Music Guild members, friends, and family for a casual evening at the Zoo on May 23 for the NM Philharmonic’s annual Stars and Stripes Forever concert.  Our own Jackie McGehee Young Artists’ Competition Winners, Ishan Loomba and Maggie King will be performing with the Philharmonic!

We’ll be sitting on the lawn on the north east side of the stage, near the Cottonwood Cafe.  Bring a folding chair or a blanket to sit on and a picnic, if you like.  Suzanne Jacobi will be there early to save enough room for everyone.  She’ll need help with this!  Please contact her at suzannejacobi18@gmail.com or 259-1013 to let her know
how many are coming so she can save enough space.

- Tickets are available at http://nmphil.org/zoo-concerts/
- Lawn tickets are $20 each in advance, $25 the day of the concert.
- The gates open at 6:30 and the concert starts at 8:00 P.M.
- The zoo does not allow glass containers or alcohol through the gates!
- You can purchase food and drinks, including beer & wine at the zoo.
- After sunset, it might be chilly – be prepared!

MGNM Grant Recipient, Opera Southwest -

Performance Named Remarkable!

Last fall Opera Southwest presented a “resurrected” opera—“Amleto,” by Franco Faccio — which had been performed only twice, almost 150 years ago in Italy.  The OSW premiere received rave reviews and was recorded by Brent Stevens of KHFM.  Stevens has worked with Opera Southwest to promote the recording and has succeeded marvelously.  OSW finds itself in the rarefied company of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Los Angeles Opera, and the San Francisco Opera (CLICK HERE to see the ad from public media trade publication Current) in having their productions broadcast nationally by WFMT Chicago American Opera Radio on Saturdays that the Met broadcasts are not.

Note:  Opera Southwest was a grant recipient of the Music Guild last year, and OSW is grateful to the Guild for being “an important part” of making this possible.
