The Señorita Program

The Señorita Program is a long-standing program of the Guild. In 1956 the Albuquerque Women's Symphony Association established the Doñita program to recognize the daughters of Symphony supporters. The Albuquerque Women's Symphony Association evolved into the New Mexico Symphony Guild, and the Doñita Program became the Señoritas of the Symphony. In 2011, the New Mexico Symphony Guild and the Señoritas of the Symphony evolved into the Music Guild of New Mexico Señoritas Program.

The
Señorita Program provides a unique opportunity for young women who choose to participate. What began as a selective social debut has become a full year of educational, social, and volunteer activities. The Señorita Program focuses on personal growth and community service to prepare young women for college and adult life. The Señoritas
are presented to the community at the annual Señorita Ball.  Click here for exciting information about this year's Ball!

The Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras honored the
Señoritas of the Symphony Program as the 2007 winner of the Education/Development category in their annual Awards and Competition event.

Señorita News!

Our annual Mother Daughter Holiday Social was held Sunday, December 7 at the Leightons' beautiful home. The girls enjoyed a tasty cookie exchange as well as a Secret Santa gift. All girls had a great time, and they all brought a coat for Koats for Kids to help brighten another child's holiday.

The girls participated in waltz lessons with their fathers, preparing for the presentation at the ball. They also enjoyed dance lessons with their dates, including salsa and two step.
It has been a great year getting to know one another!  Everyone is looking forward to the ball.

Señorita News!

Senorita Orientation was held on August 17 at the Albuquerque Country Club.  The girls with their parents learned everything they  needed to know about the year to come.  It was fun to see the girls again and meet Mom and Dad. We previewed our Senorita two time couture, and sold three dresses.  The girls looked beautiful, and the parents were happy with the prices.  We are looking forward to a great year!

Our Etiquette Dinner was held on September 14 with Mr. Chip Hindi.  The girls dressed up and ate at tables with their Auntie Mame groups. They were instructed in what to do with each course of a nice dinner, making conversation, writing thank you notes, cell phone etiquette and handling themselves in a variety of social situations.  We all learned a lot of useful information.

Señorita News!

The Señorita program is happy to report that we are getting ready to have our August Orientation with the new girls.  We have 28 confirmed Señoritas and are expecting more in the next few weeks.  We had an icebreaker event at the Albuquerque BioPark on July 31 that was an absolute riot.  Although the weather did not cooperate with a scavenger hunt and concert, the young ladies enjoyed playing games, having dinner and getting to know each other.  It was wonderful meeting the girls and the new Auntie Mames for this year, and we are looking forward to the Señorita Orientation on August 17.  Stay tuned for lots of updates as they go from new acquaintances to friends!
