For the love of music, the Music Guild of New Mexico supports, promotes, and encourages nonprofit musical organizations that will educate, enhance, engage, and enrich the quality of our New Mexico community, especially its youth.

September 2025

  • Alicia Peng, the 2025 Music Guild of New Mexico’s Jackie McGehee Young Artists’ Competition 2nd place winner in strings, will solo with the New Mexico Philharmonic at the Youth Concerts on September 16 and 18, 2025, in Popejoy Hall. There are two concerts each day starting at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. The concerts allow about 10,000 fourth and fifth grade students from local school districts to experience classical music. Alicia is 16 years old and a junior at La Cueva High School. She has played the violin since the age of 4 and has competed in the JMYAC for the last 3 years.

  • With Gratitude and Excitement for a Musical Year Ahead As we embark on the 2025-2026 program year, it is with deep gratitude and excitement that we welcome you to another season filled with music, fellowship, and community service. The strength and spirit of our Guild are built on the dedication and passion of those who give generously of their time and talents, and it is only fitting that we begin by offering our heartfelt thanks to the previous Music Guild Board Members and the many volunteers who have guided us so capably.

  • Building on our modest success from last fall, the Music Guild has decided to continue with our newest fundraiser, Flower Power! This project requires no volunteer hours to be successful, only that Guild members participate.   • The application, approved repertoire and rules are available at musicisourfuture.org New this year— An expanded piano competition and increased cash prizes totaling $20,000. Contestants playing a piano solo are now eligible for the same cash prizes as the piano concerto contestants. A new venue at the Immnauel Presbyterian Church, 3605 Silver SE, ABQ NM 87108.

June 2024

  • The application, approved repertoire and rules are available at https://www.musicisourfuture.org New this year— An expanded piano competition and increased cash prizes totaling $20,000. Contestants playing a piano solo are now eligible for the same cash prizes as the piano concerto contestants. February 2024

  • Kate Shao, 15 years old and a sophomore at La Cueva High School, earned first place in the piano division of the Jackie McGehee Young Artists’ Competition on February 9 with her performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. She studies with Tatyana Bayliyeva at the Albuquerque Institute of Music.

November 2023

  • Six outstanding and well-qualified jurists will travel to Albuquerque to judge the JMYAC contestants and award first-, second-, and third-place cash prizes plus name the Rising Star in piano and strings. They will also select recipients of tuition for summer camps. All judges for the JMYAC are from out of state to avoid partiality or favoritism. The Competition will be held at Robertson and Sons Violin Shop on February 9 and 10, 2024. Piano Jury
